Candolim is known not only for it's beach of golden sands but also for the Taj holiday village where a lot of high class tourists stay and as such it is considered a good tourist spot.Candolim offers lots of opportunities to shop and dine, right from the beachside shacks to fine dining. During the Kadamba rule in Goa, Candolim had *patshalas* imparting education in Sanskrit literature.

Candolim Beach
Candolim beach is located to the south of Calangute Beach. The beach has a lot of shrub vegetation along the shoreline with many paths leading to the beach. One can undertake jet skiing, paragliding and dolphin sighting tours from water sport operators on this beach.The beach is located at a distance of 12 kms. from Mapusa and 14 kms. from Panaji.

A large ship, the River Princess can be seen moored a short distance from the beach. The ship landed here when it got detached from its anchorage at Vasco harbor in 2003. Efforts to tow it have failed and it has remained on the beach ever since. Occasionally one can see tourists fishing along the beach using a rod and line. Accommodation is easy to find as there are plenty of guest houses, hotels and resorts in the area.Candolim is easily accessible from Mapusa by bus.

Aguada Fort

The Aguada Fort is located at a distance of around 18 kms. from Panaji.Fort Aguada is located atop a hilltop near the mouth of the river Mandovi. The fort was named Aguada which means water in Portuguese because of the presence of three freshwater springs inside. This fort was constructed in the year 1612. Durings its use, ships would stop at the lower fort for supplies and water. Aguada fort has an elaborate defense system and was heavily armed and fortified during the Portuguese rule.Due to its strategic location the fort commands a great view of the sea and the neighboring villages. The fort has steep sides along the sea and a moat on the side facing the land. Numerous cannons lined up its rampart at one time. The fort is double walled and has a two gates at its gatehouse to act as a failsafe in case attackers succeeded in breaching the outer wall.

A part of the fort is converted into a Central jail and a luxury beach resort. Located close to the fort there are two of the best hotels in North Goa, the Taj Holiday Village and the Fort Aguada Hotel. The latter was originally a part of the fort itself and now has been converted to a resort.

Candolim Church
Our Lady of Hope Church, Candolim faces the Nerul river at the foot of the Candolim hills.The church building was first constructed in 1560 and was later renovated in 1661. The church is built using the Mannerist Neo-Roman style.The church celebrates its feast in the month of December.
