The Damodar Temple is situated about 22 kms from Margao at Zambaulim. The famous temple houses an incarnation of lord Shiva, Damodar. The deity was originally based in a temple in Margao and was moved to escape from the Portuguese inquisition in 1565 A.D. when the temple was destroyed. The Damodar Temple is situated on the banks of the Kushawati River. Many devotees come to the Kushawati River as they believe that it's healing powers can cure bodily ills.

On every Monday night there is a Shibikotsav of Shree Damodar . The idol of Shree Damodar is taken in a Palkhi (Palanquin) around the temple and during the procession, fourteen halts are made. At every halt there is recitation of Bhajanas, Mangalashtakas etc. Shigmo the Goan Hindu festival of color is the main festival celebrated at the Damodar temple. The ancient system of seeking Prasad (a practice similar to that of the oracle) for the purpose of obtaining clarification the unknown, is still practices here, a large number of devotees who believe it to be very effective, go to the temple.
