Baga beach is a beautiful beach that is located at the northern end of Calangute beach. The beach is located 9 kms. from Mapusa and 20 kms. from Panaji. To the north of the beach, lies the Baga river. During low tides one can wade across this river to reach the other bank. Across the Baga river, up a hill lies the retreat center. A bridge located upstream a little away from the beach enables one to cross the river with vehicles.
Along the river, the locals anchor their fishing and touring boats. In the mornings often one can see fishermen preparing their nets for a trip to the sea. The beach is lined up with numerous shacks and hotels to cater to the large number of tourists visiting the beach. Across the beach on the other side of the river is located a retreat center. Baga beach can be reached from Mapusa by bus. Besides being a beautiful beach, Baga is also known as a fishing spot especially the cliffs on the other side of the river.
